Story Description

This is the short story of Myakka, a fifteen year old female’s challenging journey to adulthood in the Mayan culture of A.D. 800. The journey was known as a “vision quest,” a three-day survival trek, under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs, required by the priesthood of Mayan City States to prove a candidate’s worthiness to join Mayan society. Successful completion of the journey led to an apprenticeship in one of the variety of functional support specialties within Mayan society.
